Having Time Off… February 22, 2007

I used to dread going to work. Any work, didnt matter, didnt want to go. Probably the lazy bum that is in me, but I always figured it was best to be able to do what I want to do. Well, with the surgery looming oh-so closely, Ive decided to take a couple weeks off before, just to do my own thing and chill. Its been a week now of “chilling”, and Ill tell you what, it can get awefully boring. I know, its only been a week, and Ive already hit this roadblock. And its strange for me to think this, because I am straight up LAAZZZYYY.  I do miss going to work: not necessarily because of the actual job, but I do miss mingling with my co-workers and cutting it up. Dont get me wrong, I am enjoying this time by doing pretty much whatever I want to do, but I do miss social interaction. All I have really been doing is taking care of the dog, playing games, watching movies, and hanging out with the little lady. Its been nice, but its just not what its cracked up to be. I do plan on being more productive after the surgery, but until then, I will continue to relax, and think about what the future holds for me after the surgery. Will it be life changing? Probably, but not to the degree of what myself and others think it will be. So after, I will continue on with my life’s journey, but until then…..zzzzzzz

Why is this man hated so much? He is the butt of many, many jokes, and I don’t totally see why. True, he has made a couple stinkers (The Postman is a glaring boo-boo on his resume, and it probably would have helped if he didn’t direct it) but overall, I enjoy his collection. I recently watched “The Guardian” and I really enjoyed it. It brought to light what the un-heralded Coast Guard does for our country, has intense movie moments, and an overall good storyline. True, he isn’t the most emotional actor, but he is careful in choosing movies that don’t ask that of him. He knows his limits. And I don’t care what anybody says, “Waterworld” was an enjoyable movie. And lets not forget he directed and starred in one of the most important movies about the United State’s past, “Dances with Wolves.” If you didn’t like that movie, then something is just wrong with you.

We got final approval yesterday for the kidney transplant, which is going from me to Shaun. The surgery will be March 8th, in Dallas, Texas, at Baylor Hospital. I am back to being very excited.  When we finally got the green light, I was a little shell-shocked at first, just because we have been waiting so long for the final OK. Then I got really nervous, and I can honestly say that was the first time that happened. The brevity of the situation hit me, and I actually thought about how big this surgery is, and how lifestyles are going to need to change (all for the better though). I will need to take care of myself, watch what I eat, what kind of over-the-counter drugs I use (no NSaids), and maintain just an overall healthy diet.

This is so worth it though. My sister is so excited, and I imagine Shaun feels a tremendous amount of relief. From here, lives only get better.

For the people that know me in real life are aware that I am trying to donate my kidney to my brother-in-law. Some day I plan on putting the long, long road it has been to get to this point, but that day is not today.  Good news is that it looks like we are actually going to find out if I can on Monday. After many meetings and many tests, we are almost there. It looks like it is going to happen (knock on wood), official won’t come down til they call me.  The meeting to determine if I can was on Friday, but I guess they enjoy watching us squirm, and trust me, there has been a whole lotta squirmin’.

Shaun, I really hope Im calling you Monday with good news.

NEW YORK (Reuters) — New Yorkers who blithely cross the street listening to an iPod or talking on a cell phone could soon face a $100 fine.New York State Sen. Carl Kruger says three pedestrians in his Brooklyn district have been killed since September upon stepping into traffic while distracted by an electronic device. In one case bystanders screamed “watch out” to no avail.

Kruger says he will introduce legislation on Wednesday to ban the use of gadgets such as Blackberry devices and video games while crossing the street.

“Government has an obligation to protect its citizenry,” Kruger said in a telephone interview from Albany, the state capital.

“This electronic gadgetry is reaching the point where it’s becoming not only endemic but it’s creating an atmosphere where we have a major public safety crisis at hand.”

Tech-consuming New Yorkers trudge to work on sidewalks and subways like an army of drones, appearing to talk to themselves on wireless devices or swaying to seemingly silent tunes.

“I’m not trying to intrude on that,” Kruger said. “But what’s happening is when they’re tuning into their iPod or Blackberry or cell phone or video game, they’re walking into speeding buses and moving automobiles. It’s becoming a nationwide problem.”

Is it me, or is that just a bit ridiculous. New York seems like it trys way too hard into being a super-safe city for its residents. If this bill passes, I will be disappointed (yet again) in government and our elected officials. How can you possibly have a law saying you can’t use your IPod, Blackberry, or whatnot when crossing the street. Seriously? Here is an idea, New York. You can start a new agency, HWFDA, also known as Hand-Walkers for Dumb Asses. This agency can walk all your precious little NYers to work, home, to school, etc. That way, they dont have any responsibility!! Its perfect!! Oh crap, I here people get hit by cars on bikes also. Ban them. People fall off bridges. No more. Get rid of them.

Or we can just let people be human beings, and be responsible for their own well-being.

I love the Conan O’ Brien’s skit “In the Year 2000…”. When you throw Will Arnett in the mix, this is what you get:

It was nice to see the Colts win for a variety of reasons. The most obvious being Payton, who needed a ring to secure his legacy (according to Marino and Esiason, which I found interesting, seeing how they could never win the big one). Payton comes across as a stand-up guy, who has the mad skills at his position. He is a great team leader, and probably the best PR player of our time. I was very happy for Tony Dungy to win it, even though I would have been happy for Lovie Smith also. They are both class acts in a sport that is brimming with criminals and shit-talkers. They both keep their teams in line (one exception being Tank Johnson, who is just a nuisance no matter what). The Colts winning also gives hope to other teams that have great offenses and weak D’s. Example, my beloved Saints. Everybody says defense wins championships, but the Colts did it with the worst run D in the league, without re-injured Nick Harper, and with Dwight Freeney being a non-factor (he was lined up against a second stringer most of game, and his stat line read 0 tackles, 0 sacks).

I do feel bad for Rex Grossman, who seems like a nice guy, but it is as the Bears got a taste of their own medicine with the Colts getting 5 takeways (to the Colts 3 turnovers, which pretty much spells ugly game). But when your team has lived off takeaways the whole season, it almost seems fitting that is how they lose also.
